We are all overloaded with passwords, so we don’t hold it against anyone if they forget their ShareFile password. And we know, no matter how streamlined they are, password reset processes can be frustrating when you just want to get to work. If you aren’t seeing an email from ShareFile in your inbox after you’ve requested a password reset, check your spam and / or junk folders.
Don’t see it? Check with your IT admin to make sure the ShareFile domain — sharefile.com — is on your organization’s “allow” list. If it isn’t, you definitely won’t get the reset email you need. (And if you’re an admin, check out our list of domains from which we send the notifications.)

I need to share a file with someone I’m working with. Should I share a link to the file or the folder? Should I send the file to a specific person via ShareFile or should I create a link that I can drop in the body of an email? How can I protect the file if I’m sharing the link in an email?
There’s a lot to consider before you share. The good news? ShareFile can help you share the way you want. Do you want to share a single file? You can do it in ShareFile. Do you want to share an entire folder? You can do that in ShareFile, too. Don’t want to share the link in the body of an email? You can send a notification via ShareFile. You also can set expiration dates for access to the file, track activity on the file, leverage security features like watermarking, and more.

More often than not, you’ll want to share more than one file at one time. That’s where shared folders come in. Shared folders contain all folders — created by you or other users — that you have access to. In these, you can upload and download files, create subfolders, add users to subfolders and files with the permissions you want.
You can set permissions for all your folders, but be careful. Admin permission will give a user the ability to delete any items to which you give them access. And don’t forget, subfolders can inherit permissions from their parent folders, so make sure you check your intended collaborators’ permissions before sharing.
