Many businesses require the ability to share files, and being able to do so efficiently and securely is a top priority. Citrix ShareFile develops software that enables companies of all sizes to securely transfer files between colleagues, partners and clients to help streamline their day-to-day business operations.
Many businesses have questions about security: How can I make sure my files remain safeguarded from the dangers of cyberspace? How can I keep them from falling into the wrong hands?
This article will answer these questions by giving you insight into some of ShareFile's most impressive security features. We will even walk you through the process of uploading and sharing files, so that you may begin securely transferring files in just a few minutes.
Citrix ShareFile: Transferring safely, securely, smartly
More companies are adopting new methods of securely transferring files both internally and externally. Our cloud-based document storing and transferring solution is trusted by legal firms, construction companies, financial departments and thousands of other businesses worldwide. In fact, 99 percent of Fortune 500 companies have used ShareFile to transfer secure files to co-workers, colleagues and clients.
Some key security features of ShareFile include:
- Encryption — All of your files are secured with state-of-the-art encryption during both storage and transfer
- Password protection — This feature helps you control who has access to files
- Remote wipe — If a device is lost or stolen, files can be locked or wiped away remotely
- Alerts — You can set up alerts and notifications to instantly report file activity and even set expiration dates for access to sensitive files
- Regular backups — Your data is uploaded to multiple datacenters with numerous power sources where regular backups are performed
- File versioning — This feature grants you access to older versions of modified files so you can always revert to the original if needed
By now you know that completing file transfers is a must for businesses who regularly collaborate with colleagues and share documents with clients. And completing those file transfers securely is necessary in a cyber world rife with malware and hacking.
Surprisingly, however, almost 90 percent of small and medium-sized U.S. businesses do not use protection for company and customer information — an "expensive mistake," according to The Guardian. The article goes on to say, "Cybercrime and cyberspying cost the US economy $100bn a year and the global economy about $300bn annually, according to the Center for Strategic and International Studies."
Not only are cyber breaches expensive, they can cause lasting damage to your organization's reputation, interrupt business operations and result in the loss of mounds of crucial data.
An article published by Chron states, "The possibility of a security breach represents a real concern for businesses of all sizes, including small businesses. Whether you service 100 clients or 1 million clients, how you respond to a security breach can have a long-lasting effect on the reputation of the business, and can impact the level of trust customers have in the company going forward."
The cloud-based format of ShareFile makes it possible to process secure file transfers from any device without compromising the safety of your documents.

How to upload files to your ShareFile account
Welcome to ShareFile. You've activated your account and signed in for the very first time. Awesome! Now let's store some of those files. First, we will need somewhere to put them. Click Create Folder and give it a user-friendly name. Once you have named your folder, click the green Create Folder button. If you're in a hurry, you can drag-and-drop the file directly into the web application. Simply navigate to the folder and drag your file directly into the designated area. Your file will be automatically uploaded.
If you don't want to drag-and-drop your file, click Upload Files. Depending on your web browser and your account settings, you will see one of ShareFile's uploaders. Click Browse Files to locate the file on your computer and select it for upload. Don't forget: you can upload multiple files at once by clicking the Add More option.
A few things to note: If you do not see an upload button, you may not have upload permissions on the folder. In that case, contact an admin user on the account or folder to see if they can give you permission to upload files. Also, upload times may vary, depending on the speed of your Internet connection.

How are other people using ShareFile?
No matter your industry, ShareFile has a solution for you. In the following video, several Citrix employees explain how they are using ShareFile to simplify their day-to-day business operations. We welcome you to watch the video or to to skip ahead and read a transcription of the video to learn how ShareFile can work for your business.
Hi, I'm Dan and I work at Citrix. We use ShareFile every day to send large files and collaborate on projects. So when headquarters asked us to make a video explaining all of the ways businesses can use ShareFile, we decided our employees could tell the best story.
Ashley Smith, Project Manager: I think I love ShareFile because it's fast, it's easy and it saves us money. We are building a new headquarters for Citrix in downtown Raleigh and we're using the ShareFile product a ton. You've got the site plans, these enormous files, these drawings and team members around the country. It has actually saved us a couple of times. For example, we had a huge rain storm and there is no roof on the building just yet, and the rain poured in and destroyed the construction drawings that were there. But fortunately, we were able to pull them up in ShareFile within a matter of seconds and keep the process moving right along.
David Holt, Product Design Manager: The key thing for us in product design is that we deal with a lot of industries. So one core issue is that we need to be able to have as many users as possible from as many different technical backgrounds to get to their data as quickly and easily as they can. So, we try to make the experience as organic and simple across all platforms — mobile, desktop, web, whatever you are on — so that when they need it, they can get to it.
Toya Hardison, Human Resources Generalist: I used to have a huge file cabinet in my office, but I was able to do away with that. All of our employee personnel files are on ShareFile and because it is encrypted and has great security features, we are able to limit access and we are able to share information with the HR team that is spread across the country. As well as being a Citrix employee, I am a mother of three. I am able to work remotely and access needed information and files from anywhere, be that at the playground or at the doctor's office.
Justin Nuzum, Global Customer Support Manager: As soon as a client signs up for a ShareFile account, we brand it right off the bat and make it look and feel like a working part of their own website with their own logo and and colors. They can also customize it to work the way that they want it to. We can set it up so that you are only sharing certain data with certain clients, and you are also running reports and creating reports that are beneficial to you so that you know what is going on with your account and who is looking at what. We don't necessarily consider ourselves the most difficult support team. We enjoy our jobs and we enjoy working with clients and customers to make sure we are taking care of them and to make sure their ShareFile accounts works in a way that is best for them. We're trying to raise the bar for support in the technology industry.
