The most efficient way to get a big file from one location to the next used to be to mail it. For just a few bucks, you could ship a relatively big envelope all the way across the country in just a few days. Most of the time, it would actually get there in one piece. Pretty handy service, huh?
Well, there's now a new way to mail big files that is faster, safer and even more affordable. That way is Citrix ShareFile.
Even within the largest enterprises, innovation springs from constant experimentation, the ability to keep trying new ideas, and be willing to fail. On-demand cloud resources provide the way to try out new ideas without extreme investments in supporting systems. And a shift in business focus can be made fairly quickly.
Still considering mailing that big file through the mail? Take a look at how ShareFile stacks up to traditional mail when sending a large file over a long distance.
The U.S. Postal Service (USPS) has recently implemented changes in its expected delivery times. For example, delivery to a destination 12 hours away is now expected to take three days instead of two. In contrast, with ShareFile, you can get a file into the hands of another person instantly.
Let’s say you have to mail a 3-pound file to a client in England. By the USPS pricing calculator estimate, this could cost you as much as $86. With ShareFile, you can send the same size file as many times as you wish for as little as $16 per month.
That $86 envelope may not even reach its destination. Half a million letters per week go missing in the U.K. postal system. With ShareFile, your documents are protected with multi-factor authentication passwords, state-of-the-art encryption and regular backups to multiple secure datacenters.
Paper, envelopes, stamps, trips to the post office — none of that is necessary with ShareFile. Just upload and send your file. That’s all.

How to email big files
Before online file-sharing services, email was the go-to solution for most businesses that needed to share files with colleagues and clients. Unfortunately, due to email's limited file size limit, it often could not support the files that businesses needed to transfer and files would have to be sent in several parts. With the email system provided by ShareFile, you can send files up to 100 GB in size. Follow the instructions below to begin sharing files with your new ShareFile account.
- Once you have uploaded files to your ShareFile account, find the file and right-click it. If you have not yet uploaded any files to your account, this video can help walk you through the process. If you have already uploaded files to your ShareFile account and have right-clicked the file you would like to share through email, move on to step two.
- In the right-click menu choose the option that says Send Through Email
- Fill out the recipient's email address and add a subject and message, just like you would if you were sending a regular email
- Click Send
Note: Even if you have not gotten around to uploading files from your computer to your ShareFile account, you may still have the option of sharing them, depending on your account settings. To do so, follow these instructions:
1. From the top navigation bar click the Share button
2. Choose to send the file through ShareFile email by clicking the option in the menu
3. Fill out the recipient's email address, a subject and a message. Click Send.
Congratulations! You are now able to email big files!
