Have you ever turned on your PC on a Monday morning and been faced with the “Blue Screen of Death?” Or tried multitasking only to freeze your computer when you’re on a deadline?
Everyone knows the classic “Ctrl+Alt+Del” method when you’re having computer problems, but there are cases when we have to look to other sources for troubleshooting. Technology is a gift and a curse. There are so many awesome software apps that make our jobs easier. We rely so heavily on these tools that when they are not working, they can drive us bananas! Have no fear – Google, YouTube, and product forums are here! We asked our favorite business experts to weigh in on their go-to tech to troubleshoot IT problems:
Let me Google that for you
“To be honest, the bookmark I most keep handy for resolving tech issues is www.google.com. The first trick is describing your issue correctly in the search box. After all, using the “right” words to describe a problem can sometimes be tricky.
The next problem with the Google approach is that maybe you get a search result from 2011. You may read the post and try the solution but the issue has evolved over time. Or maybe the fix doesn’t work uniformly for all who experience the problem.”
Use your network
“For tech issues on products I love going to my network of friends. I’m in multiple private Facebook groups with people who are in the same field as I am in and anytime I have a tech issue it’s almost easier to post in there and see if anyone has had the same problem and how they solved it. Every time I’ve done this or have seen someone else post an issue there has been a slew of helpful responses with links and work-arounds. It keeps me from having to google search each time and find a fix through trial and error and narrow it down to something that has worked for someone you trust, who’s been there done it and made it to the other side.”

When in doubt, YouTube it
“I like to use something called ‘Google’, to troubleshoot minor IT problems. You may have heard of it. But, in all seriousness, probably the best places to solve your specific problem are product forums — so long as the particular entries you rely on are not outdated — and YouTube, where users regularly produce ‘how to’ videos that represent visual, step-by-step guides. Nobody reads instruction manuals; but, the internet makes it so you don’t have to! Just remember to type in your exact problem, as specifically as possible, to take advantage of long tail keyword search.”
