Things you should (but might not) know about ShareFile security

ShareFile is all about customization.

ShareFile has security protocols in place, such as high-grade encryption in transit and at rest, to make sure your data is protected. But did you know that we allow you to configure a wide variety of settings to make ShareFile work how you need it to? Your account manager can walk you through all of these configurable controls to help you customize things like your password policy, session timeout and account lockout. Additionally, you can require a user passcode to enforce access controls and encryption for mobile apps.

ShareFile supports multi-factor authentication.

And speaking of configurable controls, you can set up a multi-factor (or strong) authentication process that requires submission of the account password and a secondary authentication, such as Google Authenticator or SMS/text message, in order to access the account. ShareFile supports various two-factor and two-step authentication methods including forms and token-based authentication as well as SMS, voice and backup codes. Learn how to enable two-step verification on your account.

ShareFile gives you security and control from any mobile device.

ShareFile uses the same security protocols from a mobile device as it does when accessed via the web application. And because we are all about customization, mobile configurable controls allow you to protect your data from whatever device you use. You can:

  • manage permissions and access rights to files and folders.
  • determine the number of days downloaded files remain on a device before they are automatically removed, even if offline.
  • choose to require a PIN or password to access files, which means files downloaded after the PIN or password is configured are encrypted by the application on the device.
  • remotely wipe ShareFile data from a lost or stolen device.
