According to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, cardiovascular disease, such as heart disease and stroke, claims more than 930,000 lives each year, making it the No. 1 killer of all Americans.
Citrix is proudly serving this year as a national sponsor of the American Heart Association, which hosts annual Heart Walk events nationwide to raise awareness and funds for the organization’s goal to improve the cardiovascular health of all Americans by 20 percent by 2020.
To support this wonderful cause, Citrix employees around the country are fundraising and rallying at Heart Walk events in their local communities, and in Raleigh, we had the opportunity on September 22 to participate in the Triangle Heart Walk with more than 75 other local companies.
I knew that this event was going to be amazing from the moment that one of our co-workers arrived with his dog Cooper, who was wearing a bright green Citrix T-shirt to show his support. With Cooper leading the group, we began our Heart Walk, which gave people the option to walk either 1 mile or 3 miles. The best part of the day was that not only did we walk for a great cause, but we also learned how to save a life. Along each course, there were various stations focused on educating participants about the correct techniques for CPR and making heart-healthy food choices.
Through the Triangle Heart Walk, the Citrix team was able to donate more than $1,000 to the American Heart Association, which will use the funds to support research, education and advocacy initiatives on cardiovascular health. All in all, having fun with co-workers and supporting a great cause is not a bad way to spend a Sunday!
