Alright ladies and gents. International Women’s Day is here. In case you can’t sneak away from the office to attend one of the hundreds of celebrations, conferences, or exhibitions taking place all over the world today, we’ve put together a short list of ways you can still show your support for women’s leadership and success at your workplace.
Be a mentor.
One of the best ways women (and men!) can inspire and empower women in the workplace is by mentoring and coaching them. Acknowledge the potential in the young women leaders on your team and commit to nurturing them along their career path.
Create networking opportunities for women.
Lots of companies, organizations and even small businesses have internal women’s networks dedicated to engaging, inspiring and motivating female employees through fun networking opportunities like happy hours, lunches and volunteering. At Citrix, we’re fortunate to have the Women’s Inspirational Network (W!N) – a team of diverse and enthusiastic women dedicated to creating networking opportunities for other women in the office.
Provide professional support to women in your community.
If you don’t have time to volunteer outside of the office, reach out to your local Dress for Success chapter to see if your business can host a few hours of mock job interviews for local women trying to re-enter the workforce. Who knows – you could meet your next new hire!
Invest in the younger generation of women leaders.
Organizations like Girl Scouts and Girls, Inc. have made it their mission to empower girls to be courageous and confident leaders by helping them discover their strengths and talents. Make it your mission, too, and think about how you can invest in the next wave of women leaders. It could be something as simple as making a donation or hosting a career day at your office to help school-aged girls start thinking about their own careers.
Make sure men have a seat at the table.
Whatever you do to support women’s success and leadership in your workplace, make sure that your male colleagues are invited, included and involved. Engaging men and encouraging their participation will only accelerate progress toward gender equality and help create more opportunities for women in business.
