Guided by Enterprise Sales Specialist Sarah Kordulewski and Sales Engineer, Chris Anderson, the class starts off with background information on ShareFile and how the service fulfills the file transfer needs of enterprise customers. After a brief overview, Sarah moves into a demonstration of our most popular tools like the Outlook Plugin, ShareFile Sync and the mobile apps. For technical attendees, Chris jumps in throughout the presentation to discuss the architecture of the application in more detail. In addition, each class ends with a Q&A session open to all attendees and no question is off limits!

When you update your ShareFile apps for iOS, you’ll always have the latest versions of your files on your phone or tablet with Folder Sync. Folder Sync allows you to connect folders on your ShareFile account with folders on your device so changes in either location are automatically recognized and transferred to your online account and all synced computers and devices. 5.  Twitter

The ever-expanding world of 140 characters or less  has caught fire over the last several years. Twitter’s mobile application, which perfectly caters to the social media site’s attitude, has seen its popularity rise along with the original website.

This application allows users to not only quickly spit out tweets with their thumbs, but also track their timeline at a moment’s notice to keep up with their colleagues, sports teams or rock bands. This app has had a major hand in connecting individuals with each other and businesses with consumers

4.  Evernote

Evernote is one of the leading mobile applications in notetaking, archiving and record keeping. This app allows its users to pen down notes on any topic or any idea and seamlessly sync their musings to their computer tablet, or any other device with the application installed.

Evernote allows users to keep themselves organized and their tasks prioritized which has helped to benefit them both professionally and in everyday personal life.

3.  ShareFile Mobile

ShareFile’s very own mobile tools, whether for Android, iOS or other platforms, have given  users the ability to take their entire data repository in their pocket wherever they go. ShareFile’s mobile tools provide a quick, intuitive way of accessing and managing your documents whenever you need them.

As well as reviewing your data, you can also manage user access to your files  and send data out whenever you need to. It’s great in a pinch when you need to get that presentation to your client, but are nowhere near your computer.

Citrix’s recent acquisition, Podio, brings group collaboration to any mobile platform for quick use. The Podio application allows work groups to establish a place to exchange thoughts and notes, update each other on a project’s progress, or brainstorm for their next project.

With the introduction of GoToMeeting’s mobile application, Citrix’s mobile vision truly hits full force. This app gives you the ability to conduct and attend meetings, regardless of whether you are in front of your computer.

With the ability to view the full presentation of the meeting as well as attend the call, GoToMeeting allows users to fully participate in a conversation with their peers from wherever they may be, without missing a beat. The added ability to quickly schedule and create meetings further allows users to collaborate on the go.

I recently had the opportunity to speak with ShareFile customer and Babington Technology Sr. Project Engineer, Eric Robb. Eric shared some insight with me on how his company uses ShareFile’a mobile apps to create an efficient day-to-day workflow.

Babington Technology, a manufacturer of military equipment, uses ShareFile mobile apps to streamline daily operations. The company is required by its clients in government to provide weekly, text-based progress updates with pictures to reinforce the written statement. With the use of mobile devices (several iPhones, four iPads and three Android OS phones), coupled with the ShareFile mobile apps, the process of gathering and sharing images is quick and efficient.

“The ease of use of the ShareFile apps makes adoption quick and easy. However, the government feedback is what has been amazing. Prior to ShareFile, sharing documentation with the different military branches was a painful, slow process. With the adoption of ShareFile, and the overwhelming positive feedback on the client end, this once miserable process now has an easy solution. ‘We’ll just put it on ShareFile’ has become a common statement in our production meetings, both for internal documents between our three offices and for client deliverables. The ShareFile experience has been a very positive one here at Babington Technology,” says Eric Robb, Sr. Project Engineer at Babington Technology.

Mobile integration allows the company to take more photos, adding to the value of documentation and progress reports. The written documents are typically uploaded through the ShareFile web interface and shared via the Outlook plugin. Each of these processes is easy to learn and consistent with users’ day-to-day workflow.

So what are the best apps for businesses? I’m recommending five categories of apps that everyone should have on their tablet. Take a look:

These new features make transferring files from your mobile device easier than ever. My personal favorite is the ability to upload files directly to my ShareFile account instantly. I wanted to share some pictures from our company party and I simply clicked “Send” within my Android phone and chose ShareFile. I then chose the folder that I wanted to send it to and uploaded. That was easy.

Currently, the agency sends and receives a massive amount of data files and transfers extremely large creative files to its vendors. Scott Petinga, President of AKQURACY, says “Security is by far the biggest benefit of ShareFile. We work with a plethora of teams within any given client and not everyone needs the same level of access to project files. With ShareFile’s granular folder-level permissions we’re able to customize security settings, enabling specific users to have access to specific files. This keeps us compliant with legal regulations regarding the privacy and security of confidential information.” Scott explains that ShareFile is also much more streamlined because of power tools like Desktop Sync, Drive Mapping, Outlook Plug-in and mobile apps, which make workflow much faster and more efficient for employees working remotely.

Tracking and alerts are an easy way to make individuals involved with the file sharing process aware of new file uploads. The agency no longer has to send a separate email telling those individual users that files have been uploaded, and it saves the hassle of sending links back and forth. The agency also has a ShareFile log-in box at the top of their website, which makes it easy for clients to access their files and information securely.

Scott says that ShareFile is very intuitive; making it incredibly easy for everyone on a project to access and manage files via email, mobile and/or web. In addition the security features have improved the agency’s compliance with legal regulations surrounding the privacy and security of information. “We didn’t care for the level of security (or lack thereof) behind our prior methods of data sharing. We also had size limitations, connectivity issues and a general sense of unreliability with other products. With ShareFile, it’s easy for any member of our team to gain access and manage content. This saves us time, which translates directly to increased margin,” says Scott.

The big announcement is regarding our new mobile app. Our customers spoke. We listened. The new app will feature sync capability, enhanced security using encryption APIs, ability to upload files and remote wipe. This just in… the app was submitted to the Apple App Store less than 24 hours ago.

The new ShareFile mobile app with allow users to get seamless access to all files and folders on-the-go. Earlier this year, we released file sharing applications for the Apple iPad and iPhone, Android phone and tablet, Windows phone and an app for Blackberry users. Apps are available free to download for ShareFile customers.

Citrix also announced ShareFile integrations into its Receiver, allowing Xen App to open and view/edit files from the Receiver.

Web conferencing is also made easy with the iPad. With its front and rear facing cameras, users can easily connect with business colleagues while traveling. Apps like WebEx and GoToMeeting are easy-to-use and make web meetings painless for business users.

Another cool way that the iPad can be used in your business is conducting presentations and viewing charts. The iPad can be especially helpful when hooked directly to a TV or large projector for a business presentation. During the presentation process, there is generally a need to exchange large documents that may be too large or confidential to send via email. That’s where the ShareFile app for iPad comes into play. The iPad app is optimized for a tablet screen and processing power and users can easily browse files and share them via ShareFile without downloading. All data transmitted between the tablet app and the user’s mobile device is encrypted, adding an extra layer of security that’s necessary for sensitive business files. The ShareFile iPad app also helps businesses go paperless!

My first thought was, “I bet Apple is the leader.” To my surprise, I was wrong! Actually Google Android led the platform group among smartphone subscribers, with over 38.1% of U.S. smartphone subscribers. Apple was, however, in the #2 spot, with 26.6% of the market. RIM was in the third position, with Microsoft and Palm following, respectively. Another surprising statistic to me was that subscribers are primarily using their phones to text (69.5% of all mobile subscribers) – I would have guessed internet browsing.

Since Americans are constantly connected and rarely with their smartphone out of arm’s reach, the question then arises, Will smartphone phones and tablet devices replace computers?

The revolution of smartphones within the past 3 years has changed the way workers operate. According to a recent article in Business Insider, about 75% of enterprises now have “bring your own device” policies currently in place. The article goes on to outline how BYOD policies increase employee productivity and lower support costs. I tend to disagree. Yes, maybe employees will be constantly connected, even outside of the office. However, I think the ability to use your iPad or other tablets as a substitute for a computer given by the company may in fact lower productivity. This is based solely on opinion, but it seems as if employees will spend more time playing games on their device, engaging in social media platforms like Facebook and Twitter, or managing their personal apps- all while on the clock. Of course this could still be the case with laptops or desktop computers if unmonitored by management.

I don’t disagree with this policy- I just think there are a few kinks that need to be eliminated if such workplace policies are going to be implemented. Employees should have to sign an agreement that their devices may be wiped for security reasons and be required to turn over in the event of litigation. Another potential question arises with BYOD- will companies reimburse for employee’s wireless plans and for the purchase of work related apps? This would sure eliminate the amount of expense reports floating around!

Users of the mobile applications will have seamless access to all files and folders on their account. Users can also browse files or folders and share them via ShareFile without having to download them. The mobile applications will also feature built-in access to previously downloaded files, allowing users to view files without having to re-download them. These applications are designed to play to the strengths of mobile devices and are optimized for mobile screen resolution and connectivity speeds.

With the recent launch of our Sync tools, mobile web application, and now native applications, we are continuing to make the process of sharing files easy and convenient for our customers.
