May is National Smile Month in the UK, National Moving Month and Drinking Water Month in the US, and also Health and Wellness month here at Citrix ShareFile! With all of our hiring, there seems to be no better time to tell you about all the things we’re doing to keep our employees healthy and active!

So what kinds of things do we offer?

Well for starters, we’ve got fresh, organic fruit in our kitchen and a selection of healthy snacks in our break rooms. We’ve got a gym in our building and we encourage employees to take advantage of it. In our suite, you’ll find that free weights, punching bags and exercise balls abound. Recently, some ambitious ShareFilers have organized a Run Club and a Cycling Club for colleagues to get out and enjoy the fresh air. Open to all fitness levels, these groups get together for various distances at a variety of times during the week.

Looking for something more competitive? We’ve got an intramural basketball league wrapping up their inaugural season, and we’ll be kicking off kickball (see what I did there?) and a few pick-up sports as the weather warms up. Just want to get out and walk? We’ll help you find a path for that, too!

We offer annual health screenings for employees and will be rolling out fitness on-the-go programs in the next few weeks. For those expecting new little ones in their lives, we’ve got education programs and benefits, too. There are even programs in place to help maintain financial and emotional wellness. Plus, maintaining a work/life equilibrium is practically mandatory around here!

Wellness though is not just about improving yourself; it’s also about improving the lives of those around you. All Citrix employees are given one personal volunteer day and one corporate volunteer day every year. Employees are encouraged to join their colleagues on a Global Day of Impact site for their corporate day and to choose a charity that’s important to them and spend their day there for a personal volunteer day.

There’s a lot to love about our SimplyFit programs – what will you love?

On any given day, you can walk through the ShareFile sales floor and hear the constant hum of people prospecting, performing demos with clients or huddling together to share insights with each other. At the same time, you may see a person whizzing by on a scooter or two people battling it out on the foosball table. I sat down with a few Sales Managers to see what keeps our sales team performing at such a high level while enjoying a fun work atmosphere.

Grant Kitching, Senior Manager of Vertical Sales, believes that daily collaboration among teams is the main driver of a high-performing, innovative sales team. One of the ways ShareFile supports this idea is through “scrums.” These daily meetings were originally a part of the agile development movement to ensure better product releases through tighter communication between developers, product managers and other key stakeholders. Every morning at ShareFile, Lead Generators, Sales Executives and Directors on vertical sales teams meet in “scrums” to discuss daily numbers and projections, competitors, or articles. This gives an open forum for team members to share best practices and hold one another accountable.

Anna Hwang, Senior Sales Manager, believes that our success lies in one of our core sales values “we are a family first and foremost.” We have an awesome culture at ShareFile, and everyone is encouraged to be a part of it. Most employees are friends in and outside the office, and she believes that gives us such a unified team spirit and energy. The sales team has a dedicated social committee that puts together corporate outings such as sports events, happy hours and intramural teams. With this sort of relationship, the team wants to see each other be successful. Everyone is extremely competitive with one another but in an environment and culture that emphasizes sharing information and best practices to ensure everyone is at the top of their game.

While maintaining a high level of team collaboration is a key initiative here at ShareFile, Kendall Bradshaw, Inside Sales Manager, believes our focus on personal as well as career development is what makes the sales team so special. “We believe that the best way to grow a person professionally is to supplement career growth with personal development,” says Kendall. There are weekly classes and trainings for employees to improve organization, work-life balance or even daily health. Alongside this personal development, ShareFile provides unparalleled opportunities for career development. Every manager is extremely accessible, and during weekly pipeline meetings employees are encouraged to talk about their long-term vision and goals. Kendall herself was able to become a manager after starting as the youngest member of the sales team at ShareFile! With the explosive growth ShareFile is seeing, positions are opening up all across the board, and it is a key focus for managers to prepare internal employees to take them.

The main takeaway I had while interviewing these managers is that sales employees are extremely valued. The organization wants every salesperson to succeed and grow with the company. While interviewing Kendall, management had just ordered pizza for lunch for the entire team. If that doesn’t keep someone engaged, I don’t know what else does!

When is it good to talk about yourself?

When you speak on behalf of a company.

It may seem counterintuitive, but it’s true. A company with self-awareness is able to connect with consumers on a more human level. Just think about these three ways that a good story can help you reach others:

1) Sales

It’s satisfying to support a company that you admire. Making your values and story known encourages customers to remember you.

2) Retention

Most of your employees want a career, not just a job. When employees know your story, they know where they fit into the broader narrative.

3) Recruitment

To a strong candidate, an active mission and clear identity can help your company stand out among potential employers.

If these sound like good reasons to develop the story-telling culture at your company, check out three easy, inexpensive ways we emphasize our company story at Citrix ShareFile:

1) Hold a class

Reinforcing your organization’s values is especially challenging when you’re part of a growing team. ShareFile founder Jesse Lipson hosts lunchtime sessions where new and veteran employees can come together to learn how ShareFile came to be and what drives each of our team goals and values.

2) Promote key themes daily

Demonstrate that your mission and culture are important to everyday activities. ShareFile’s account management team sends out the Story of the Day each business day to recognize an employee who has gone above and beyond to deliver amazing service. These reminders highlight the impact that each person can have toward ShareFile’s mission: to raise the bar for service in the technology industry.

3) Make it visual

A giant timeline of important events from ShareFile’s early days wraps the walls of our break room. The timeline serves as a reminder of important events that helped the company become what it is today. While you may not choose to paper a room with your company’s history, a display case with early awards and other souvenirs from important days for your organization can increase employees’ awareness of your continuing company story.

Just like every company’s story is unique, the ways that you can communicate it can be as creative as you like. How do you promote your company’s history and values to employees and clients?

Last week I sat down with some of our newest team members to find out what they think of their experiences so far.

Amanda Yost had this to say.

“I started with ShareFile just over a week ago. I have had so much fun as a Sales Associate as I get the opportunity to talk with various people from all over the country to learn about how we at ShareFile can make their work life easier and more streamlined. I love that I get to offer a helpful service all day!”

Yan Autphenne, new to the marketing team, says he appreciates the relaxed, but professional atmosphere in the office.

“It’s very refreshing to me to be in an environment that is open to people’s different ways of doing things, but still in a very collaborative manner. I was told that I’m responsible for this program, but if things come up, ‘let us know and we’ve got your back.’ There is a lot of that kind of support, which is important.”

Ryan O’Shea, also new to the marketing department, talks about how he feels empowered to do his job.

“This is a great time to be here because we’re in a stage of growth and there’s a lot of support for the kind of work that people like Yan and myself were brought in to do. I feel like I’ve come in and been handed this program with a lot of support. It’s a very empowering kind of position and that’s a great thing to feel from your management structure.”

It was great to get the opportunity to speak with new team members and get more insight to their overall opinion on Citrix ShareFile’s work environment! We will continue to make Citrix a great place to work.

Alex Hofford stays busy. He’s a ShareFile account manager, improv comedian, bar trivia host and our Quarterly Theme Ambassador. What does the ShareFile Quarterly Theme Ambassador do? Read below to hear from Alex himself.

Sarah: How do you define your role as Quarterly Theme Ambassador, and how did you get involved with it?

Alex: I coordinate ShareFile communications and events to promote our company quarterly theme, which is chosen by our executive team each quarter. The quarterly theme gives us all a common direction and inspiration for the quarter. To support the themes, I plan surprises, events and general messaging to get everyone excited about our current focus.

When it was announced that a new role within the company was opening up for this purpose, I immediately knew that it was something I wanted to try. It’s great to have a productive outlet for sharing creativity and humor with the rest of the team.

Sarah: How do you come up with good programs that support the quarterly theme?

Alex: I think that there are two parts to planning a good event or activity: making it fun while keeping it relevant. It’s easy to just take everyone out for a bar night or buy lunch and call it team building. But if we have an event that actually ties into the theme, that can get everyone talking about it. We also plan things like contests where ShareFile employees who embrace the theme in their work win recognition, so we try to come up with a number of different ways to keep employees involved each quarter.

I always try to keep things entertaining so that everyone wants to participate. It’s not too difficult to make time for event planning or recruit coworkers as volunteers because I’m genuinely excited about organizing fun events for everyone, and I think that enthusiasm is the best thing that you can bring to a job like this. It’s much easier to get good participation and feedback when the events are things you really want to attend yourself.

Sarah: Is there anything new that we should know about?

Alex: Without giving away any surprises, I am working on planning more events that prepare us for our upcoming move to a new Citrix building downtown. I want to provide opportunities for some of my coworkers who don’t live in downtown Raleigh to explore the area. Since Citrix is becoming a big part of the tech scene in this area, I also think it’s great to build connections with other groups. We hosted a wine and chocolate tasting event with SAS for the first time last quarter, and I hope that we can have more parties like that where our employees get to mingle with people from other companies in the industry.

Thanks for helping to make ShareFile a great place to work, Alex!

In my opinion, your company’s culture can make or break your company. Have you ever stepped foot into a corporate office- everyone wearing suits, carrying briefcases, so serious the people around don’t crack a smile? I have. It’s just something about the stiffness that isn’t comfortable. That’s the opposite of the culture and environment that we have here at ShareFile and is the main reason why our employees love working here so much.

If you walked into the ShareFile office today, you would be greeted by a receptionist and chances are, in the process of checking in, you would hear someone yelling and look over to see a competitive game of ping pong taking place in our game room. As you make your way to our kitchen to grab a cup of coffee, one of our developers would probably fly past you on a scooter or skateboard- watch your toes! If you were visiting our office for a meeting, you would be guided to one of our conference rooms (where you will be safe from Nerf bullets flying through the air). After your meeting, you would probably be invited by our Sales team to play a game of cornhole. That is just a daily snapshot of the culture we have here at ShareFile.

In my opinion, our company culture is such a positive aspect of ShareFile because of who we are and how our Executive team has defined our company in the following ways:

-Our mission is clear

-We have a high integrity workplace

-We have an emphasis on recruiting awesome employees

-Our employees are committed to the organization

-We have highly effective leadership

-We are customer centric

-Our employees feel valued

-We are committed to responsible growth

-We are data driven

In gathering feedback about the culture here at ShareFile, I randomly asked a few employees what their perception of ShareFile is and what makes this the best place to work. Here are some of the answers I received:

“I’ve worked in a number of business environments including non-profit, sales, project management and even massage therapy. I have never experienced a company culture like that of ShareFile. A few of my friends, who I’d love to see work here, joke that I’m trying to “sell” them on it. I don’t need to sell it. ShareFile’s company culture speaks for itself. We are laid back and have a lot of fun, but we are also very serious about meeting our company goals. Everyone wants ShareFile to be successful. So, when the time comes to meet deadlines, push hard to achieve a goal or make tough business decisions, it doesn’t faze us. I count myself fortunate to work for such a fantastic company and am so excited about ShareFile’s future!”
-Nicole Collins, Associate Project Manager

“I like that we are still in start-up mode. Everyone multi-tasks and goes above and beyond to get the job done. At the same time, we get along with each other and keep our company mission ‘To raise the bar for service in the field of technology,’ the highest priority.”
-Al Scillitani, Senior Manager, Online Marketing

“Working at ShareFile is awesome! I imagined my first job out of college to be with a company where everyone is just there to do the job and the job itself would be repetitive day in and day out. At ShareFile, it’s completely different—we are dedicated to being customer centric in everything we do and each day brings something new. I enjoy building relationships with my clients and sharing experiences with my team, all while having fun. Every person is focused on providing the best service to our customers. We are a tightly knit group here and we support each other’s professional goals and the goals of the company.
-Sarah Rowe, Corporate Sales Representative

So, what is your company culture like? We would love to hear from you.

In August, we announced that ShareFile was named to the Triangle Business Journal’s Best Places to Work list. ShareFile was named among the Best Places to Work within the medium-sized companies in the Triangle area. I must say, I am very impressed with the work environment and overall company culture here at ShareFile. It’s unique and it’s what makes people really enjoy their daily jobs. Our employees are very passionate about the environment that has been created, which is shown by the willingness to acknowledge it publicly.

As you are probably already aware, ShareFile was recently acquired by Citrix. I am happy to announce that Citrix has been selected as one of Glassdoor’s “Top 50 Best Places to Work.” Citrix is ranked #20 out of 150,000 global companies. Glassdoor bases the award solely on input from employees, who provide constructive feedback on their work environment and management via an anonymous online survey. It is awesome to know that we are now a part of the Citrix family- where employees have the same positive feelings about the very special environment that exists.
