It took two jackets to not completely freeze in the polar windstorm that came through Washington, D.C. on Feb. 27, but that didn’t stop SMB owners and entrepreneurs from attending PressWho’s ‘Meet the Media’ event.
After all, this was an opportunity to meet and connect with a panel of media experts, including Gene Marks and Christina Daves. Gene, a columnist and author, writes daily for The New York Times and weekly for Forbes, The Huffington Post, Inc. Magazine, Entrepreneur.com, FOX Business, and Philadelphia Magazine. Christina, a serial entrepreneur, has founded and run four successful companies over the past 20 years. The Citrix ShareFile team was excited to sponsor this event as we continue to build relationships with the key influencers whose voices are regularly heard in well-known publications.
Brittany Bailey, CEO of PressWho, kicked off the event with questions about the type of work on which Gene focuses. Instantly, the crowd got a dose of “insider information” as Gene shared the type of work he prefers, how he formulates his stories and the types of stories he’s looking for across the various publications for which he writes. Once Gene shared his tips on how to successfully work with him, Christina began sharing her approach, cultivated in more than 20 years of experience, to successfully working with reporters and TV producers.
With such an intimate media event, participants can ask questions during the discussion and really get involved. And, this crowd certainly was not shy. The event was very interactive with conversations ranging from social media and embargos to biggest pet peeves.
The entrepreneurs who attended were able to get an inside look at best practices, strategies and tactics while making a personal connection with both Gene and Christina. Once the formal panel discussion ended, the crowd spent one-on-one time with each of the panelist. Both panelists gave great feedback to entrepreneurs looking for tips on how to take their media relations programs to the next level.
The ShareFile team showed attendees how they can solve common start-up and small business problems by using Citrix technologies, such as GoToMeeting, GoToMyPC, ShareFile and Podio. One attendee who runs a company that helps men plan marriage proposals was looking for a project management tool. We, of course, recommended Podio as a free tool ideal for her company.
All-in-all, the PressWho event in Washington, D.C. was amazing. For me, it was a great learning experience and a chance to connect with both media experts and our customers to help them solve business problems.
A big shout out to Gene, Christina and Brittany for their efforts. We look forward to the PressWho national tour.
