Global Day of Impact with Special Olympics of NC

On Friday, May 31 Citrix employees from our ShareFile division and our Online Services Division (the team behind our GoTo line of products), spent their Global Day of Impact volunteering at the Special Olympics NC Summer Games. Over 1,500 athletes competed over the weekend, and Citrix team members were there to welcome them to the games and cheer them on.

The early part of the day was dedicated to creating motivational and encouraging posters to be used during the competitions by Spirit Squad members. Special Olympics NC has never had the manpower to do this but has always wanted to do something like it; with 23 employees joining us, we were delighted to tackle this project for them. We had a blast taking a creative turn with our day and coming up with some artistic designs and affirming expressions — who knew we had so many artists among us?

After lunch, we joined NC Teaching Fellows to greet the athletes as they arrived and checked in to the rooms they’d be staying in for the weekend. The joy on the athletes’ faces as over 100 people shouted and cheered for them was exceptionally rewarding. With athletes visiting from all 100 counties, team members were also able to serve as an information resource and help direct families and athletes around the NC State campus during the afternoon.

Special Olympics NC holds local events throughout the year and many of Friday’s participants are looking forward to volunteering their time at a future event!
