Citrix Synergy was hosted in L.A. this past week, and was the place to be if you want to be in the know about what Citrix has in store for the future. Of all the new products, features and technology advances, one shone bright through the excitement. Citrix is going mobile.

At Synergy, the virtualization company displayed its new XenMobile product. With XenMobile, Citrix is aiming to ease the growing concerns of enterprise IT specialists by securing their users’ mobile devices with a new suite of IT-controlled apps and enhanced security features. Among the native applications provided by the offering are WorxMail, a secure mail client for your Android or iOS powered device, WorxWeb, which allows for browsing the web based on IT-enforced parameters, and last but not least, Citrix ShareFile, the tool for secure file transfer and storage.

ShareFile also unveiled a few more tricks with its mobile application. Along with serving as the file system for the XenMobile suite of Worx mobile applications, ShareFile now allows you to tap into existing network shares to review and edit documents, as well as Microsoft SharePoint locations. This new SharePoint connector also allows users to check out documents, make a few edits on their mobile device and when they’re done, check them back in. This breakthrough allows users to be more efficient from wherever they may be, while still getting all of the security benefits that ShareFile provides and IT professionals desire.

Citrix also displayed more of the newest upgrades and features to their extensive list of tools that allow for enterprise users to be more efficient and flexible while still meeting the security criteria from CTOs and CIOs. ShareFile has proven to be growing piece in this IT puzzle and things seem to just be getting started.

Sadly, I won’t be joining in the Synergy fun in Los Angeles. But I’m happy to offer a few tips for somewhat off-the-beaten-path things to do for the lucky Citrites who will be in Los Angeles next week for our big tech conference. I lived in and around Los Angeles for eight years before making the move to Raleigh, and while there are certainly things I don’t miss (traffic, smog, traffic), there are a lot of things I really miss. Here are five of them:

1. Cha Cha Chicken in Santa Monica. Caribbean food, very casual atmosphere, awesome plantains and beans. It’s not fancy. But it’s delicious. And you can stroll up the boardwalk after you stuff yourself full of L.A.’s yummiest Jamaican jerk chicken.

2. Contemporary art at Bergamot Station. After lunch at Cha Cha Chicken, head over to the city’s best collection of contemporary art galleries and see great art by emerging artists in L.A. and beyond. (If you like more a more traditional art scene, you can’t go wrong with the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, The J. Paul Getty or my personal favorite, the Norton Simon Museum in Pasadena — a smaller collection, but nearly every piece is something you studied in Art History 101).

3. OK, this wasn’t there when I lived in L.A., but I wish it had been: The space shuttle Endeavour is now housed at the California Science Center, in Exposition Park near the University of Southern California campus. Exposition Park also is home to fabulous gardens, the Natural History Museum and the California African American Museum — all of which are cool and interesting. But I’d love to see the space shuttle up close and personal.

4. Crepes at Farmers Market. L.A.’s Farmers Market is an amazing sight to behold in its own right: It overflows with fresh produce and every kind of ethnic food you can imagine, 365 days a year. But my favorite way to launch a morning at Farmers Market was at the French Crepe Company, located in the center of the market. Get something sweet and something savory, and add a French press pot to your order. And after you over-stimulate your senses with a tour of the food stands, you can walk over to the adjacent outdoor mall, where you’ll probably see a movie star or two.

5. Downtown. I know — no one goes to downtown L.A. And that’s fine, because it’s nice to keep some treasures to yourself, especially in a city as crowded as Los Angeles. Some of my favorite downtown spots are the truly awesome Walt Disney Music Hall (if you like a good philharmonic performance, check out the L.A. Phil), the decidedly non-Gothic Cathedral of Our Lady of Angels, and touristy but fun Calle Olvera. The arts, some religion and a churro. So totally L.A.

Social. Mobility. Context awareness. Nontraditional content. User experience. Consumerization. All of these were hot topics at the Gartner Portals, Content & Collaboration Summit in San Diego last week.

After scoring the highest possible rating given in Gartner’s MarketScope for Enterprise File Synchronization and Sharing*, it was fitting for Citrix to exhibit its solution to business and IT leaders at the event.

In the MarketScope review, Citrix ShareFile’s strengths included integrations with Citrix Receiver, Citrix XenDesktop, Citrix XenMobile and Citrix Podio, as well as the multi-product aspect of our portfolio including sync tools, mobile apps and more. We saw the effect these integrations can have in action at the summit, as attendees at the event were especially interested in how the ShareFile product works within their current Citrix environment.

A highlight of the event was a presentation on “Solving the Dropbox Problem “ by Bill Carovano, senior director of product management for Citrix ShareFile. The session focused on risks associated with employee use of unsecure, consumer-style cloud services to access and share company data. Bill explained that it’s time for IT to provide an enterprise-ready and secure solution that meets user mobility and collaboration needs. He also shared success stories from retail, financial, government, healthcare, education and manufacturing organizations who found the balance between security and compliance requirements and user mobility needs.

The Gartner Portals, Content & Collaboration Summit was a great success for the Citrix ShareFile team in 2013. Check out a photo of our booth below!

Citrix ShareFile customers now have an easy way to tell their clients, friends and associates about ShareFile and earn rewards for it. Today marks the launch of Refer-a-Friend, a new way for ShareFile customers to receive thanks for spreading the word about ShareFile.

ShareFile strives to provide superior products and world-class customer service to our business clients. With Refer-a-Friend, happy ShareFile customers can confidently recommend ShareFile to anyone with just a few clicks and earn great rewards in the process.

Refer-a-Friend gives ShareFile customers the ability to create unique, traceable links that can be shared via email, Facebook and Twitter. If someone signs up for a free ShareFile trial via one of your links, you will be notified. If they decide to sign up for a paid account, you get a $30 gift card, redeemable at top retailers, at popular charities or for cash value.

“We have some of the happiest customers in the world, and we’ve been asked before why they can’t just invite people to try ShareFile themselves,” says marketing analyst Kevin Hill. “With Refer-a-Friend, we wanted to make it easy for them to tell others about ShareFile, and reward them for it at the same time.”

Refer-a-Friend launches today and can be accessed by anyone with a ShareFile account. To get started, visit the Refer-a Friend page and simply enter your name and email address. Inside the sharing widget, you can easily share via email, Facebook, Twitter or a personal link. After sharing, track your stats within the widget to see how many of your friends have started a trial or signed on for a paid account. You’ll be sharing and earning rewards in no time!

Guided by Enterprise Sales Specialist Sarah Kordulewski and Sales Engineer, Chris Anderson, the class starts off with background information on ShareFile and how the service fulfills the file transfer needs of enterprise customers. After a brief overview, Sarah moves into a demonstration of our most popular tools like the Outlook Plugin, ShareFile Sync and the mobile apps. For technical attendees, Chris jumps in throughout the presentation to discuss the architecture of the application in more detail. In addition, each class ends with a Q&A session open to all attendees and no question is off limits!

“It’s a great opportunity for companies to see a demonstration of the ShareFile Enterprise product while also getting a technical overview of the architecture,” says Sarah. “I love being able to have a virtual meeting where people all over the world can come and see the product as we update it and add new features. [The class] not only helps educate potential customers, it helps educate current Citrix employees, customers, and partners on the ShareFile product.”

Looking for a job after graduation? Good news: Citrix ShareFile, voted one of the Best Places to Work in the Triangle, is hiring entry-level sales representatives in Raleigh, NC!

I know what you’re thinking—you probably didn’t go to college to become a salesperson. Let me explain why you’re going to love this job. We think of sales differently.

The sales philosophy of ShareFile stems from our mission to raise the bar for service in the field of technology. We reach out to help people learn about ShareFile knowing that in just a few years ShareFile has been hugely beneficial to over 9,000,000 people around the world. Our software is easy to use, offers more features than any other product in the market place, and is priced so reasonably that it pays for itself within days. Our goal with each sales call is to determine whether the person we are speaking with could benefit from ShareFile. If the answer is yes, we’ve made a sale. If no, we move on to the next opportunity.

As an Associate Corporate Sales Representative, you spend your first 3-12 months in training, prospecting, learning about the products and company, and having management mentors by your side. As you grow, you will be promoted to become part of the closing cycle and learn to perform demonstrations to new customers. In this role you have the opportunity to drive your own compensation through a base + commission structure. You will have the training, the support and the tools to be successful, but now it’s up to you to drive your success!

Here’s what we are looking for:

-Strong internal drive to succeed

-Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, strategic, consultative sales role

-Energetic and entrepreneurial personality

-Strong interpersonal, communication and teamwork skills

-Track record of achievement and demonstrated ability to overcome obstacles

-Belief in a customer-centric approach

Benefits:

-Lively culture

-Downtown location

-Monthly happy hours

-Great benefits and competitive compensation

-Game room and endless snacks

Here’s a glimpse into the sales culture here at ShareFile.
